- Why have my lanai panels gone cloudy?
- They are almost certainly acrylic rather than glass, and acrylic yellows and crazes under sustained ultraviolet. Florida delivers a great deal of ultraviolet, and a west-facing porch gets a concentrated dose of it every afternoon. Cleaning and polishing buys a little clarity back on light hazing; once the surface is crazed the panel is at the end of its life and gets replaced.
- Can I put real windows in my Florida room?
- Yes, and it is a common upgrade, but it is a bigger job than swapping panels. Rated windows in rated frames need the wall below them to be capable of supporting and sealing them, and if the room is being brought into the air-conditioned part of the house the permit treats it as habitable space rather than a porch.
